UFC 115 - Liddell vs. Franklin Fight picks and breakdown

I'm back on track with another main event winner in the last UFC. So that's only one wrong since last September.

Chuck Liddell vs. Rich “Ace” Franklin
These guys are both matched up well and are two former champions working their way back towards a title. Both of these guys have been in some wars and it should be an interesting match.
Chuck looks like he’s in great shape and his classic beer-barrel six-pack is looking more shredded. However, Chuck hasn’t fought in over a year and everyone saw in the last UFC, with Quinton Jackson, that ring rust is a real thing. Chuck has also changed over the years and found himself on the receiving end of the big knockouts that he use to deliver. I think Chuck’s a different fighter these days; he’s rusty and has had his knockout ticket punched one too many times.
I hear word that Franklin plans on using a lot of leg kicks to wear Chuck down and if that’s his plan I think he’ll pull away with a victory. Although Chuck comes from a striking background of Kempo Karate and Kickboxing he doesn’t throw many kicks and has a surprisingly hard time dealing with leg kicks which was evident when he fought Keith Jardine.
I think Chuck should switch up his game plan and use some of that wrestling we hear about BUT, I think he’s going to be looking for that big right hand again and lose via decision. The smart fight for Franklin would be to stay on the outside, throw a lot of leg kicks and wear Chuck down. I’m going with Rich!

Paulo Thiago vs. Martin KampmannThis is a fight that I’m looking forward to and it should be one that showcases what MMA is all about. I don’t see this going the distance either.
A quick breakdown is that on the ground Kampmann has a strong ground game but Thiago’s Jui Jitsu is on a whole other level. Standing up, Kampmann is a much more technical striker but Thiago has the stronger punches.
We’ve also seen that Kampmann has one hell of a chin and can take a great punch.
With all that said, I’m going with Thiago because he’s more dangerous. Kampmann may catch Thiago during a transition or during some sort of brain-fart but Thiago’s either going to knock Kampmann out or submit him.

Ben Rothwell vs. Gilbert “The Hurricane” YvelI have to go with Yvel on this one because I picked Rothwell in his UFC debut and he was horrendous! Rothwell looked like complete garbage and undid any cred I thought he carried in the now defunct IFL (International Fight League).
Yvel’s been around for a long time and has fought many big names. I’m taking Yvel via knockout!
